2 Coconut Cream Concentrate/Coconut Butter Drink Comparisons

Standard

I decided to do a taste test comparison on 2 different brands that offer the coconut butter or coconut cream concentrate products, just to see if there would be a difference in what I felt, was a pretty straight forward product. (Not a lot of room for differences, or so I thought.)

The 2 brands that I compared are Mara Natha’s Coconut Butter and Tropical Traditions’ Coconut Cream Concentrate. The Mara Natha brand is “all natural” and the Tropical Traditions brand is organic.

To make the test fair, I did the exact same thing with each product before drinking it. I used 1/2 cup hot water each, in 2 separate mugs, then added about 1 Tblsp each coconut products, to both mugs. I stirred thoroughly with each, and then did my taste test.

One of the first things that I noticed, was that the Mara Natha brand had a strong off flavor to it. I am not sure what the flavor was or what it was from (The coconuts themselves, or part of the processing of the product?) but I know that I did not like it. It also had a heavier flavor than the Tropical Traditions brand, but overall was not too bad. I would give that product a 3 for making coconut drinks with.

The Tropical Traditions Coconut Cream Concentrate had a lighter flavor overall, and no bad aftertaste. I would give this brand a 5, as it tasted creamier, and I would only use this brand for making coconut drinks with now. I will probably use this in other dishes now too, since I really like the flavor of it.

In this picture, the Mara Natha brand is on the left, and the Tropical Traditions is on the right.

Time to Detox!

Standard

Today we took a little trip to the city and found some items I can’t get here where we live, which also happened to be things on the detox list from the movie Hungry for Change. You can see my blog post about it here to get the complete list.  🙂

I was so excited to finally get my hands on some Chia seeds, as well as some Aloe Vera Juice! I’ve already delved into the chia seeds (which surprisingly have no taste and are not that crunchy either), and will be downing some of the aloe vera juice soon too.

I also picked up some Coconut Butter, which in essence is VERY similar to coconut oil. I probably could’ve done with it, since I already had the coconut oil here, but I didn’t realize how closely they resembled each other until after I had purchased and tried it. I can see the benefit of having the coconut butter though, for certain dishes that require a bit more texture or consistency.

Here’s a picture of my mini haul.

I nearly picked up a can of coconut milk too, but I can get that for less here where I live, so I waited.

I’m really looking forward to starting my detox full throttle tomorrow. I am trying to ease my body into today a bit, before going full tilt.

Good luck to everyone doing a detox! It’ll be interesting to see how I feel after completing it.
